With April coming to a close, I’m sure you all are gearing up for May’s most colorful and festive holiday: Cinco De Mayo! With an estimated half-million New Yorkers of Mexican heritage, you can be certain that there’s no shortage of authentic spots to dine this May 5th. In fact, why limit it to only one day a year!? We’ve rounded up 5 of our favorite taco trucks from around the city, where you can grab quick, delicious, and cheap bites – leaving plenty of money leftover for margaritas to last you all day!
1. El Diablo Tacos
Besides the fact that the tacos here are legit, we can’t stop bragging about how awesome El Diablo’s food truck is because of its location: parked on the back patio of a bar!
Residing in Williamsburg’s performance space and drinking hole, Union Pool, El Diablo Tacos serves Cinco De Mayo classics: such as
- Fresh tamales
- Crisp tortas
- Hot and steamy roasted corn
- Chips with guacamole or cheese sauce
- SO many types of tacos: $3 chicken, pork, beef and vegetarian, and $4 fish and shrimp

El Rey del Taco is a Queens staple and favorite. Parked in Astoria, you can head here expecting delicious traditional Mexican bites, such as burritos and quesadillas, along with something truly special: handmade corn tortillas. These babies are loaded with your choice of salted beef, chicken, or chorizo, and topped off with cilantro, onions, and tomato. Meals start at $6, and are large and hearty.

3. Tacos Morelos
If you’re looking for a perfect late night fix, Tacos Morelos is the place to come. The first truck is a long time fixture off of Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, and more recently brick and mortar stores have popped up in the East Village and Jackson Heights, paying tribute to the truck’s cult following.
You can load up on platter-size burritos, stuffed with Oaxaca cheese, beans, rice, and tomatoes and dressed heavily with sour cream, or their famous breaded chicken torta for under $9.
The portions are huge and affordable, and you’ll have plenty to scarf down for breakfast the next morning!

If you like your tacos with a lot of toppings and sauces, Chilo’s has a spread just for you.
- Traditional chicken tacos are $3
- Smoked beef tacos are $4
- $4.50 for shrimp
- $5 for fish, duck, or pork belly
But get this, they have a taco at $3.50 that is cactus! How’s that for branching out and tasting something new this Cinco De Mayo?!
The truck at this location is also linked to their bar, so you can kill two birds with one stone – tacos and margs in one stop! Gracias!

5. Korilla BBQ
If you work in one of the Manhattan skyscrapers, there’s a good chance you’ve tried (or at least seen) the tiger striped Korilla BBQ food truck lurking around Midtown. Taking a slightly different spin on tacos, this truck does the tacos, burritos, and rice bowls Korean-style – filling them with beef bulgogi, braised short ribs, and spicy chicken. The truck has become so popular they’ve added a permanent location in the East Village!
